CLEAN is an arts collaborative that consists of two artists/cleaners. We clean each morning and create art the rest of the day. CLEAN aims to entertain and engage with place and people in order to create a humorous commentary on the modern world. Fleeting thoughts and small ideas unwrap and expand into playful meaning and understanding that inspires contemplation on a variety of levels.

CLEAN-UP is a unique site specific event (performed  the 4th, 5th and 6th of October) that involves using Cumbria’s everyday rubbish. Thrown away bags will be given a new lease of life when inflated with helium and noosed with glittery ribbon, floating bin liners and supermarket carriers all jostling together in the sky. The performance takes the form of CLEAN distributing huge bunches of these peculiar recycled balloons.

The image of a bin bag floating ethereally and blowing delicately in the breeze creates a strange visual oxymoron with inspires a sense of humane pleasure. Through glorifying these overlooked, grubby, utilitarian objects we are allowing them to momentarily take the place of a shiny red party balloon.

CLEAN -- UP documentation will be exhibited on the inside of wheelie bins around Carlisle, exact locations available from Carlisle Tourist Information or on the FRED website.
