Niki Russell'Redrawn, HB [Repeat]'Redrawn is an evolving installation / action work. Through the use of diverse spatial practices it attempts to disorder or re-order the space in which it occurs. Mapping particular units of space and multiples thereof - and yet by doing so, allowing the process to restructure this sense of familiar terrain. The work intends to disorder or re-order the space in which it occurs, with an ethic of the anti-spectacular these actions exist as subtle and unobtrusive interference, gradually entering the audience's peripheral consciousness and functioning as works of visual disarticulation, disrupting routine and passive awareness of space. This will be my second visit to the Foldgallery space. The first visit in August 2004 saw a wall surface, 65 x 80cm in area, filled in with HB pencil; then sanded off and laid across a corresponding area on the floor. Two years later having been invited to participate in the teetotum project/exhibition, and with the proposition of extending, modifying or reconfiguring this past work in mind, various such revisions have been considered. However rather than tautologising this previous action, a decision has been taken to use the same words and to do it again. Using the inaccurate process of measuring from photographic records of the first visit an attempt will be made to locate the 'exact' location of the 65 x 80cm area to repeat the action. As the time spent in the space on this second visit is longer in duration, the repeat will inevitably not fit and further decisions will need to be made in order to avoid this anachronism. |
