A seven-metre bubble over redundant architecture in the vast open landscapes of the Upper Eden Valley, the Artist asks us to consider the role these structures play in familiar views. The landscape is littered with redundant buildings and structures – remnants of past agricultural practice and social history, now left to decay with no useful purpose, these landmarks are still protected as part of our cultural heritage. Landscape Bubbles lets us revisit these forgotten oddities.
Steve Messam works in a variety of media, often working site specifically outside the gallery environment. Through exploitation of colour, scale and repetition, his work challenges our perception of a shared reality. Steve Messam lives and works in Kirkby Stephen.
