Workers arrive one morning to discover that the bottle on top of the water cooler in their office has something written on it… The writing, although incomplete, seems to be about someone who works in an office… This piece consists of an office water cooler, upon which is written an excerpt from a story about a man working in an office. The water cooler will be installed into a real office. Those working in the office will be able to read the part-story and whilst taking a drink will be able to speculate / gossip about what it all may mean.
In this piece Tom asks interesting questions about the nature of reality, art and also Artist / Audience collaborations. How would those people working in the office react if this story-on-a-water cooler appeared in their office outside of the context of an art exhibition? Can they relate to the man in the story? Do we spend our working time relating to other people in a way that we would prefer not to? Are working relationships between colleagues always healthy?
