Shelley Heath

OS grid ref: SD 326 997
Tarn Hows; buses from Coniston and Ambleside.

Shelley is committed to creating art that is connected to life, one sensitive to the specific conditions of place and alert to the possibilities of ordinary materials. This involves using low status objects such as brushes, old engine oil, buckets, cakes and other mundane domestic type utensils. Shelley uses dressing up and alternative spaces outside the conventional gallery and performs live alongside props. Her intentions are to communicate to others some of the difficult feelings associated with her life experiences.

In most of her work Shelley appears live alongside these everyday articles which attract Shelley and which she and can relate to. These simple tools which women use in the home, are not seen as important but by investing in them Shelley gives them status and validity which then somehow makes Shelley feel empowered. Shelley has a diverse art practice using video, script, live performance, sound and installation to enable her to reach a wide range of audiences.
