Project description:

FUN is an ongoing documentary photography project, recording and celebrating the things that Cumbrians do together for fun. The photographs record everything from country and western fans (complete with guns) to a dog obedience event, and from Uppies and Downies to the bikers at Devil’s Bridge. A book will be published in 2006, but FRED provided the opportunity to show the pictures in the Cumbrian High Street – by providing a DVD slide show to independent TV retailers across the county.

Artists statement:

Inspired by Tony Ray-Jones’ seminal A Day Out, first published in the 1970s, these pictures record Cumbrians getting together to enjoy themselves. Most of the events were organised, in which case pictures were taken with the full knowledge of the participants, but I am a documentary photographer: so no pictures were posed, and available light was used throughout. The project continues in Aberdeenshire during the latter part of 2005, and a book will be published in 2006.
